Your Advise is as Good as Dust

In today's economy, many of us find ourselves in difficult times trying to make changes and decisions. We may  even speculate as to why or think is it something that we have done to earn these hard times. What answers are you seeking and who's advise are you listening to in this moment?

Job in the Bible found himself in a difficult situation as well. He had lost nearly everything including his children.   In an effort to help, his "friends" offered their advise, wisdom, and understanding.  The key word in the previous sentence is "their".  They lack understanding of God's ways and wisdom.  Our hope and answers can be found in God. Job's response to his friends was "Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes [valueless]; your defenses are defenses of clay [and will crumble]." Job 13:12.

We must test that which we think of as wisdom.  Is it the wisdom from God?  The wisdom of this world is foolishness compared to the wisdom of God.  James 3:17 says, "But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy."  Learn to seek the wisdom of God first!

I have seen his ways, but I will heal him...

How thankful are you to the above title?  God see's our ways, but still offers to restore us from the choices we have made.  Isaiah 57:18 reads, "I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him".  God is fully aware of our tendency towards sin but graciously offers to forgive us as we as seek Him.  But He doesn't stop there.  He also guides us in His ways of righteousness instead of our own fleshly desires.  Lastly, He will restore comfort to us for the hurts from our former lifestyle.

What's Obvious About Your Life?

Romans 1:19-20 says, "They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God."

Although these verses point to God existence through nature, as a Christian it should be obvious of God's existence through our lives.  Consider this: Is the truth of God obvious in your life?  Can His qualities be observed and pointed out by another through your daily activities and worship of Him?

My life is worth nothing

So did I catch your attention? My devotion this morning came from the Tyndale Life Application Daily Devotion which puts my title into context with the following scripture. Act 20:24 NLT, "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus--the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."

The point being made is that sometimes we can feel that our life is a failure unless we're getting a lot out of it: recognition, fun, money, success. This this how the world defines success. But Paul in the Bible considered life worth nothing unless he used it for God's work as quoted in the above scripture. What he put into life was far more important than what he got out. Our challenge today is to consider which is more important... what you get out of life, or what you put into it?

Love Covers

Today I am so thankful for the scripture of 1 Peter 4:8, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."

Yesterday I was a little difficult to deal with having a bad attitude and being snappy.  Many factors play a role in that, but still I had a choice.  It was very challenging to walk in the spirit yesterday instead of the flesh.  My hope is today will be better (my attitude if not my circumstances).  Help me choice life today Jesus by the help of your Spirit living within me.

I must give credit to my loving husband yesterday who took the brunt of my attitude.  He truly demonstrated as Christ, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."  Thank you Matt!

National Recovery Month

As I have begun this journey of recovery ministry with my husband, Matt, I have learned that the month of September is National Recovery Month. What exactly does that mean? It's a time that celebrates people in recovery and promotes that recovery from chemical addiction is possible. National Recovery Months is a national observance to educate others on the fact that recovery can help those with substance abuse to become free and live a healthy and rewarding life. Of course, we have seen that the Christian approach to addictions recovery produces the most effective and lasting results.

International Celebration 2011 Recap

The parade of nations started with delegates from Australia and ended with delegates from Vietnam. It was a big day with twenty countries represented at our annual International Celebration Sunday in February. God’s love was real as we heard live testimonies from overseas missionaries, participants of short-term mission trips, and updates from our Hispanic speaking church.

Your prayers and financial partnership in the Gospel is vital to the lives we are reaching.  Visit www.partnerwithmissions.org to make your online donation today.

Chasing Love?

Chasing love? No need according to Ephesians 1:4, “… He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world”. For Valentine’s we hosted a community outreach giving away candy and Gospel tracks. We went into surrounding neighborhoods, parking lots, and retail stores sharing the love of Jesus.

God’s favor was poured out as we gave out 250 candy hearts, suckers, and salvation tracks. People received our gift with surprise in their eyes as we told them of God’s love. You can see me knocking on someone’s door and a picture of Matt  praying with a guy walking on the street who was carrying a brown bag of alcohol.

The result was amazing… lots of smiles as many people allowed us to pray for their needs… jobs, healing, etc. One man prayed to receive Christ! We are grateful that we can take the message of Christ to our own community.
