MY TESTIMONY
Born into a Christian family, I learned early about having a relationship with God. At the age of six, I accepted Jesus as Lord of my life. Through God’s faithfulness and the foundation of His Word laid in my life, I continued to grow in my Christian faith. Upon entering college I eagerly sought friendship with other Christians which led me to become part of a campus ministry. After graduation, I sought God's Will for my life by practicing 2 Peter 1:10, "Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you". Once I received God's confirmation about my future, I obeyed and pursued ministry as a full-time vocation.MY MINISTRY
Currently I am ministering with my husband, Matt Kornegay, who has started drug and alcohol recovery ministry called Reach Recovery. Together, we are reaching, engaging, and restoring hope to adults battling drug and alcohol dependencies with the Gospel of Christ! We consider it a honor to serve God in this capacity.
My initial service in ministry began in 1997 at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, NC. During my years at ECU I established a ministry to internationals students and served as the International Student Director for nine years. In October 2004, I moved to New York for one year to work alongside a church plant. While there I focused my efforts on reaching international students at Columbia University, New York University, and St. John's University. After a year in NY, an opportunity opened to relocate back to NC and direct a missions organization empowering missionaries both domestically and abroad. During that season is when I met Matt and we married. Now, Matt and I are serving together in the drug and alcohol addictions recovery ministry.
A TRIBUTE: MY MOM (1949-2006)
Her name was Pauline, also known as "Polly" and she was my mother. Only living a short 56 years on this earth, 30 of those were with me. She was a Godly woman and excellent mother who raised her children in the fear of the Lord.
I owe so much thankfulness to her for serving our family sacrificial. Her greatest contribution to my life is leading me to the Lord when I was only six. Once I grew up, she wasn't too excited about my career choice for vocational ministry for quite some time, but after years of seeing God's faithfulness and fruit in my life, she became my greatest fan.
She really cultivated a "missions" heart in me when I was only a kid. She would take me out into neighborhoods with her and have me knock on the doors of people's home and invite them to church. I thought it was the coolest thing eventhough I was like the most timid child ever.
Two specific words of advice I always remember from her are: always be a leader, not a follower and every date is a possible mate (so now I add, eliminate the bad date before it's too late). There's much more, but those are the two that stand out to me in this moment.
February 1, 2006 she relocated to heaven to be with Jesus. I can't think of her as dead, because in reality she is still alive, just not on this earth. One day, I look forward to seeing her for a lifetime in eternity as we worship our God forever.
